    Excellent video on bandsaw set up. Very thorough! Covered every important aspect. I would add, however, a small tip; when aligning the bandsaw blade to the wheel, center the blade gullet (the deepest recess of the tooth edge) to the centerline of the wheel. The blade will look a bit off center as a whole. This brings the cutting edge closer to the center line of the wheel (not on it). This prevents the blade from wobble and fish tailing, keeping the cutting edge from wandering and always engaging the bearing wheels.

    Not sure if you’re still following comments, because the video was several years ago. But I’ll ask my questions and hope you are. I followed your technique and got perfect results - except - the joints are way too tight. I sanded the insides of the fingers and I can put it together but they’re still too tight for glue. Gonna need more sanding. Is it because of the wood? I’m using oak that’s 13.5mm thick.

    I think Axminster should spend less time promoting their products and more time actually getting them in stock! Sanders, table saws, planers - most are out of stock with no suggestion when they'll be back in!

    Is the end grain on the sides or the end where you have your face plate

    • @axminster
      @axminster 2 дня назад

      Hi there, the blank is cut out of a board or plank so you get end grain and side grain within this. The reason for using the timber like this to make a bowl, is that it is more stable and easier to season, which would be difficult with an end grain log orientated bowl. Hope this helps 😀

    • @axminster
      @axminster 2 дня назад

      Hi there, these types of backed saws are classed as dovetail or tenon saws, the tooth grind might be ground for either cross or rip, but these will be able to do a bit of both. A tenon saw is used to cross cut, to produce the shoulders of the tenon, but then also rip cut to remove the cheeks of the tenon. Hope this helps.

    At 6:15 or so there's a mention of a flat bandsaw wheel. I have the larger version of these Italian-made bandsaws (the 540), and my wheels are not crowned. I believe that means running with the teeth just off the front of the wheel/tire instead of in the middle, but if the wheels are perfectly co-planar that's difficult to achieve. Any tips for adjusting tracking on a flat-tired bandsaw?

    • @axminster
      @axminster 9 дней назад

      Hi there, as long as the bandsaw wheels have a tyre, rubber or even leather on older machines, then the blade can run central on the wheel. If there is no tyre, and just a metal wheel, then the teeth of the blade will need to overhang the front edge of the wheel, as metal making contact with the metal teeth of the blade will take the edge off one side of the blade. The tracking still works the same to adjust the position that the blade runs on the wheel. I hope this helps.
