Join Jason as he makes a bespoke garden gate. This garden gate project uses simple tools and lots of skills to create a gate that will last. This is a wonderful thing. I hope the manufacturing goes from strength to strength. I want all my tools made in Devon!
Excellent video on bandsaw set up. Very thorough! Covered every important aspect. I would add, however, a small tip; when aligning the bandsaw blade to the wheel, center the blade gullet (the deepest recess of the tooth edge) to the centerline of the wheel. The blade will look a bit off center as a whole. This brings the cutting edge closer to the center line of the wheel (not on it). This prevents the blade from wobble and fish tailing, keeping the cutting edge from wandering and always engaging the bearing wheels.
Thanks for sharing your tips and glad to hear you found our video useful. Thanks for watching 😀
It's a shame they didn't test there lathes and they could work on there after sales service
Hi there, I am sorry if you are experiencing issues with your lathe, please contact our aftersales or technical support teams, who would be happy to help you www.axminstertools.com/contact
I saw Jason at the Mid-Atlantic Symposium in Lancaster, PA USA. He really is a talented turner, trainer and jokester. I enjoyed this video almost as much at the Symposium.
Thanks for sharing! Luckily we have lots of videos featuring Jason for you to enjoy packed full of turning, tips and jokes! 😀
Not sure if you’re still following comments, because the video was several years ago. But I’ll ask my questions and hope you are. I followed your technique and got perfect results - except - the joints are way too tight. I sanded the insides of the fingers and I can put it together but they’re still too tight for glue. Gonna need more sanding. Is it because of the wood? I’m using oak that’s 13.5mm thick.
I think Axminster should spend less time promoting their products and more time actually getting them in stock! Sanders, table saws, planers - most are out of stock with no suggestion when they'll be back in!
Thanks for your feedback. We strive to get tools back in stock as quickly as we can. You can often order items on back order so they are dispatched as soon as they come into stock or you can also sign up for alerts to notify you when they are back in stock. Hope this helps 😀
can make sone cool mft table tops with this !
This is terrible lmao he’s really nervous. Also, he’s wearing his safety specs on top of his head 😂
Love it! I teach kids woodworking. I’m going to have the kids make some variation of this project.
What a great idea, I hope they enjoy having a go! Thanks for sharing
Way too fast. Also seems a worrying lack of PPE on the factory floor.
Salivating
Is the end grain on the sides or the end where you have your face plate
Hi there, the blank is cut out of a board or plank so you get end grain and side grain within this. The reason for using the timber like this to make a bowl, is that it is more stable and easier to season, which would be difficult with an end grain log orientated bowl. Hope this helps 😀
Pretty cool stuff. 👽
I really appreciate my Axminster tools, my favourite is my bandsaw, used daily 😊
Thanks for sharing 😀
Awesome thank you
Thanks for watching!
Dizzying 🙂 A longer slower version would be of interest 🙂
Sorry you find it dizzying! You can slow down the playback speed in the settings if that helps.
@@axminster🙂 'Linger Longer' on the interesting bits 🙂
Thank you for the feedback, we can certainly bear this in mind for any future video content and we are pleased to hear you are interested in seeing how our tools are made 😀
All to fast don’t get to take it all in and it makes me dizzy
You can change the playback speed in the settings if that helps!
Great video. Good insight, made in UK. Quality testing! Core values!
Thank you for watching!
Where is that showroom? I have a whole diy workshop I need to equip. It would be great to be able see and ask questions about each piece of equipment before buying.
Hi there, the store featured in the video is our Axminster Store in Devon. Visit this page to find your nearest store www.axminstertools.com/stores where staff will be more than happy to advise you on your needs
@@axminster The Devon store looked somewhat bigger than my nearest (Ciltern). I don't mind the drive if there's a larger variety of stock to view.
Hi, our larger stores are Cardiff and Newcastle, however if there is anything specific you are looking to try, please do call ahead to any of stores and I am sure our staff would be willing to help in any way they can.
1000,,,,!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you're rip cutting. Do these crosscut saws also rip cut well?
Hi there, these types of backed saws are classed as dovetail or tenon saws, the tooth grind might be ground for either cross or rip, but these will be able to do a bit of both. A tenon saw is used to cross cut, to produce the shoulders of the tenon, but then also rip cut to remove the cheeks of the tenon. Hope this helps.
New to this Colwyn. It's always a pleasure to watch you turn.you make it look so easy.but as with anything you turn it takes time.
Thanks for watching. Practice makes perfect!
It´s nice to see that my working progress of my first aztomaton is so similar to yours. But I worked it out by myself, just by looking at Images of a automata and trial and error.
Great to hear you have had success! Trial and error is a great place to start and hope you have enjoyed making your automata toy
@@axminster Thank you. I still have to assamble it after painting. But I think I can finish it this week.
Einhell, Scheppach, Sip, Wen and more all sell the same thing? The saws are all noisy and buttons etc identical. Is this any different?
One of the best videos I have ever watched!! As a beginner, this video helped me clear a purpose of each tool. Extremely helpful. Thank you!!
Glad to hear you found this tutorial helpful! And thank you for the kind feedback 😀
Mini vases
I can't see me ever making a garden gate such as this but I enjoyed watching this video and as usual Jason reveals some useful tips.
Glad you enjoyed it. Jason always has a useful tip to share! Thanks for watching
At 6:15 or so there's a mention of a flat bandsaw wheel. I have the larger version of these Italian-made bandsaws (the 540), and my wheels are not crowned. I believe that means running with the teeth just off the front of the wheel/tire instead of in the middle, but if the wheels are perfectly co-planar that's difficult to achieve. Any tips for adjusting tracking on a flat-tired bandsaw?
Hi there, as long as the bandsaw wheels have a tyre, rubber or even leather on older machines, then the blade can run central on the wheel. If there is no tyre, and just a metal wheel, then the teeth of the blade will need to overhang the front edge of the wheel, as metal making contact with the metal teeth of the blade will take the edge off one side of the blade. The tracking still works the same to adjust the position that the blade runs on the wheel. I hope this helps.
Excellent. This is exactly what I was looking for. Just lost a large number of branches from the hurricane Beryl and thought this would be a great project.
Glad to hear you have been inspired.
Really well produced, thank you for putting this together!
Thanks for watching! 😀
Excellent video, more like this household stuff is really useful, and not just fine woodworking. This is smth everyone can start their woodworking journey. As many are coming to it through DIY. And when all the gates and deck chairs are done in their garden snd in their neighbours’, they are turning into make something more sophisticated. Great job, excellent presentation and perfect soundtrack!
What lovely feedback, thank you. We love nothing more than to develop skills and inspire our viewers. Thanks for watching!
Good work. Great instructions. Very inspirational, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Bugger - I put up a gate (bought in) a week ago! 😡 May make another hole in wall and build this gate to fill it! Great video, thank you
Oh no! I sense a garden makeover coming...😀
Hi is there any difference in the AC405ss to this one apart from the added flexi shaft or have they up graded there awful pin-less blade support clamps which let the machine down terribly thank u
Hi there, the only difference between these scroll saws is the flexi shaft. Hope this helps
Thank you for your clear explanation. And, it is much cheaper than a domino.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Sir by far the best video out there explaining what each tool does and how to do it. I’m gonna save this and run out to my rockler store and get some new tools. I’ve been using carbide scrapper and round head? Tools and I’m feeling limited.
You are very welcome, thanks for watching!
Where can I get one of these from in 2024?
This machine has now been discontinued. Our current range can be found here axminster.tools/3LlNBmZ
Great Video. I am going to make one of those.
Glad to hear you feel inspired! Good luck
❤We already have a bench grinder 2800 rpm with a 50mm Reki and a Axminster 40mm CBN wheel and find it running a bit to fast and thinking off a Axminster Professional AP200SRG 1450 rpm Grinder i want to know the C/C between the wheels the grider i have has 360mm with our own rest setup on the bench Thank You
Hi there, the distance between the 2 wheels, is 360mm. Hope that helps.
@@axminster 🙏 Thank You
What product did you use to make the dyes? And what did you tint them with?
Hi there, we used Chestnut's spirit stain for the colours - bit.ly/3C1KHPV
Little trick from making model aeroplanes more than 5 decades ago. After glueing the paper to the frame LIGHTLY spray the inside surface with water (perfume spray is perfect) and leave to dry. The paper will shrink slightly and become much more taut and smooth.
What a great tip! Thank you for sharing
Love this video ! thank you, you've peaked my intrest in automa ( not sure of spelling), your a very creative as well as an organized teacher who explains precicely how to assemble ,well done.
What lovely feedback! Thank you for watching

You apologised to the Amerians for NOT being able to use BRITISH MEASURMENTS. The UK started to use Metric Measurments when we joined the EU. WE HAVE LEFT THE EUROPEAN UNION. IMPERIAL MEASUREMENTS LIKE INCHES ARE BRITISH!!!! YOU SHOULD BE GIVING ALL MEASUREMENTS IN IMPERIAL UNITS - FIRST. By all means as a courtesy to Europe it is OK to give metric measurments AFTERWARDS. How do you get things BACKWARDS?
Way too expensive, need a more affordable brand
Wow thats awesome Brendon.
prety cool but polyurethane glues work better for fingerboards
I'm just starting out with woodworking and just watching this video already gave me some nice and handy tricks. I like that it's full length, showing the whole process and not just tiny bits. I will soon make this lamp!
